What Is Linear Actuator?
A linear actuator is a device capable of converting an externally supplied energy into desired mechanical work. Designers use linear actuators to automate an incredibly wide variety of mechanisms from large machines such as excavators to small devices like hook lifter.
Most common actuators are either linear or rotary. Linear actuators, such as YMD series linear actuators, move objects in a straight line relative to their position as they receive power from an external source. Similarly, rotary linear actuators spin shafts or other joints about a pivotal point of rotation when powered, you can refer to YMD606A linear actuator.

Ball screw: Compared with the lead screw, smaller current, less wear, higher transmission efficiency, longer lifespan, higher cost, no self-locking ability.
T-screw: The trapezoidal screw has simple structure, convenient installation, low precision, low transmission efficiency and low cost, have self-locking ability.

Self locking ability
- To ensure maximum self-locking ability, please be sure that the motor is shorted when stopped. Actuators with integrated controller provide this feature, as long as the actuator is powered.
- When using soft stop on a DC-motor, a short peak of higher voltage will be sent back towards the power supply. It is important when selecting the power supply that it does not turn off the output, when this backwards load dump occurs.
Compare to the hydraulic actuator and linear actuator:
- Maintain-free
- Smaller installation space
- No need to heat the oil in winter
- Less part of actuator
- Easier to repair
- Cheaper cost
